Proposals for Research Training Groups (RTGs) and Collaborative Research Centres (CRCs)

If you are planning to establish a DFG-funded Research Training Group or Collaborative Research Centre at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU), we suggest that you contact us at an early stage so that we can assist you with the proposal process.

Details about RTGs and CRCs

The DFG’s proposal procedure is divided into two stages: the submission and review of the draft proposal in the first stage is followed by the full proposal and an on-site review in the second stage. The final funding decision is made during meetings of the DFG Grants Committees for RTGs and CRCs, which are held in May and November of each year.

Unlike applications for research grants, for RTGs and CRCs proposals cannot be submitted by an individual scientist or scholar - the regulations for RTGs and CRCs require that HU submits the proposal to the DFG. If the spokesperson of an RTG or CRC is based at HU, HU bodies have to be involved in the proposal process. For a brief overview of the proposal procedure and the participating bodies, please consult the link below. If the spokesperson position is not held by a HU professor, and the University is only involved in the RTG or CRC as a participating institution, this normally simplifies the proposal procedure within HU – please contact us directly about this matter.

You can apply for up to €50,000 of start-up funding for the proposal phase via the Research Service Centre. We invite you to contact us at an early stage, particularly if you have questions regarding funding and further assistance from HU.

Information about the proposal process at HU

We will also provide information here shortly about CRC and RTG renewal proposals. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
