Jamaica celebrates 50 years of sporting prowess

Commemorative event at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin with exceptional athlete and special guest Merlene Ottey

This year, the sporting nation of Jamaica celebrates its 50th year of independence and diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany. The small island state in the Caribbean is well known for its success in sports, especially in athletics. Jamaica, through various programs, supports young talents and the local development of sports, particularly athletics, some of which are undertaken in collaboration with PUMA AG.

Against the background of the London Olympic Games and the European Football Championship, the Embassy of Jamaica and the interdisciplinary Center for Sports Science and Sports Medicine Berlin of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin will convene a Sport Forum on May 15, 2012. The event brings together German and Jamaican athletes and scientists to discuss, inter alia, Jamaica’s success in athletics for more than 50 years. Amongst others, the Jamaican-born athlete Merlene Ottey will provide information and answers in that regard, as well as Patrick Lipton Robinson, Judge and former President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Mr Robinson is an ardent follower of global athletics, has a keen interest in the development of the sport in Jamaica and has written on the subject.

We kindly invite you to this event and to a prior demonstration of the scientific and diagnostic expertise of the CSSB:
