It has been about two years since the HU-Welcome Center, „International Scholar Services“, opened its doors to support international researchers in non-academic matters regarding their research- and teaching stay at HU. The project receives its basic funding through Santander Universities, who have now extended their financial support for a period of another three years.

The respective contract has been signed by HU-president, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. Sabine Kunst, and Oliver Burda, Vice Chairman Santander Consumer Bank AG in Berlin on 24th May 2017. President Kunst expressed her content about the further cooperation, as the Welcome Center fosters HU’s attractiveness for international top researchers.

More than 600 international researchers from over 98 nations, and from all HU-faculties, have already benefitted from the International Scholar Services so far. The services address a diverse target group from abroad: PhD candidates, postdocs, professors, employees, and visiting scholars.

Support from the International Scholar Services

International researchers receive support throughout all stages of their stay: planning the stay while still in the home country, orientation after arrival and during their entire stay in Berlin, as well as before departure. Important issues are for example practical matters as visa applications, accommodation search and taxes, as well as social issues like networking, and the integration for the accompanying partners and families. An important benefit is the visa- and residence permit service by the International Scholar Services: researchers can submit their residence application directly to the Welcome Center at HU, who will deal with the authorities on their behalf and facilitate the process significantly.

The International Scholar Services offer not only support for the international target group, but also for the HU-administration and hosting institutes. These are invited to register their international guests at the International Scholar Services even before arrival to ensure a smooth transition and best preparation.

About the Welcome Center

The Welcome Center is located in the historical main building of HU, Unter den Linden 6, Room 1069.
