Humboldt-Universität joins iTunes U

Digital audio and video content provided by Berlin's oldest university available for free

It is possible now. Replay lectures from “Humboldt Children's University” on your computer at home or watch the "Humboldt Debates" in the subway. On 31 May 2011, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) started its public iTunes U site. As a dedicated area within the iTunes Store, iTunes U features free digital video and audio content provided by renowned universities from all over the world. Users can not only subscribe to numerous podcasts, thus automatically downloading and streaming files directly; they can also sync the content with their mobile devices such as cell phones, netbooks and laptops.  On 31 May, i Tunes U Europe celebrated its third anniversary.

On its iTunes U site, Humboldt-Universität offers easy access to a wide range of podcasts about science, research and debates concerning the challenges institutions of higher education must cope with in the future. On the occasion of Humboldt-Universität’s bicentenary, the “Humboldt Debates in cooperation with the Stiftung Mercator” were published as a video podcast. In four public panel discussions, internationally renowned scientists and scholars discussed the issue of "Teaching and Learning” in the 21st Century.

Moreover, established series such as “Humboldt Children's University” are downloadable too. Junior students and adults alike have the chance to experience 25 exciting and funny episodes of eight years of Children's University. In the series “We are Humboldt”, HU professors offer real insights into their scientific field of interest and its recent developments. Another video podcast features prominent Humboldt alumni. For instance, German politician Wolfgang Thierse, Michelle Bachelet, the former President of Chile, radio producer Jürgen Kuttner, or former basketball pro and Vice President of Alba Berlin, Henning Harnisch, share their experiences.

With its iTunes U site, Humboldt-Universität joins the group of over 800 universities that have active iTunes U sites to distribute their audio-visual content.
