President of the Leibniz Association lectures on recent trends in the German Research System

On 19 October, 2011 the Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences welcomes its new doctoral students. On this occasion, Karl Ulrich Mayer, President of the Leibniz Foundation, gives a talk on “Recent Trends in the German Research System and the Role of Doctoral Training”.

Karl Ulrich Mayer is the President of the Leibniz Association, Stanley B. Resor Emeritus Professor of Sociology at Yale and Director Emeritus of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin. His major research areas within sociology are social stratification and mobility, life course and aging as well as education and labor markets. Professor Mayer is Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the British Academy of Sciences, the Academia Europaea, the German National Academy Leopoldina and the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften.
