Islam, Youth and Gender in South and Southeast Asia

International conference at Humboldt-Universität and Freie Universität Berlin

The focus of the international conference "Islam, Youth and Gender in South and Southeast Asia" lies on communicative strategies, discursive practices and new forms of organization among Muslim women's rights activists in the two main regions South and Southeast Asia and on the aspect of youth.

Twenty scholars from South Asia, Southeast Asia, North America and Europe will present and discuss their current research in four separate panels. Meena Sharify-Funk (Waterloo, Ontario), author of "Encountering the Transnational: Women, Islam and the Politics of Interpretation” (2008), accepted our invitation to hold the keynote address.

The conference will be held on the 20th and 21st of April 2012 at Humboldt-Universität and Freie Universität in Berlin.
