The Rule of Law and Separation of Powers in the United States
The Integrative Research Institute Law & Society (LSI) at Humboldt University in Berlin is hosting a public discussion event on Friday, 20 June 2025, from 12 noon to 2 p.m., on the separation of powers in the USA and the debates on this topic since the 1950s.
Under the title ‘The Rule of Law in America. Executive Power from Robert Jackson to Donald Trump,’ US legal scholars Andrew Weissmann, NYU Law School, and Kim Lane Scheppele, Princeton University, will talk about Robert Jackson, who advocated for a strong executive branch as Attorney General in President Franklin Roosevelt’s cabinet, and about the understanding of the separation of powers under current US President Donald Trump.
