Excellent research

Humboldt-Universität's research strength is based on the broad spectrum of disciplines represented by its professors and other academics. The research profile is characterised by the outstanding achievements of its researchers, research in the faculties and institutes and externally funded research projects. These also characterise the development of new scientific fields at the interfaces of research in various disciplines. For its research, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin utilises the opportunities offered by the Berlin-Brandenburg science location for intensive cooperation with numerous non-university research institutions and is well networked both nationally and internationally.

Research in faculties and departments

The faculties and institutes of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin carry out a large proportion of research. Detailed information can be found on the pages of the faculties and institutes: Link

Special research foci

Research priorities are reflected, among other things, in DFG Collaborative Research Centres (SFBs) and  Research Training Groups (GRK) as well as large European funding projects. Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin has also set up temporary Integrative Research Institutes and Interdisciplinary Centres to promote innovative research across disciplinary boundaries. Clusters of Excellence

The Clusters of Excellence are large-scale research projects funded by the Bund (federal state) and Länder (federal state governments) in which scientists conduct interdisciplinary research on innovative topics across different institutions. Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is involved in four Clusters of Excellence as an applicant in the 2019-2025 funding period and is involved in three other Clusters of Excellence.
