European Research Council

Since more than 10 years, the European Research Council (ERC) has funded outstanding, excellent projects in the field of foundational research. Every year 1,8 Billion € (2017) of funds are allocated to various projects in four funding lines. Unlinke other European funding programs are ERC Grants aimed at individually outstanding researchers with ground-breaking ideas. In line with this, the ERC's guiding principle is "High Risk - High Gain". Approximately 700 projects are chosen every year to question the current limitations of knowledge, which typically would be considered as daring and too risky.
