Science friendly arrangement for the distribution of proceeds from the marketing of know how or patents

Where third party funding is obtained, the funds provided by the sponsor can be used by the scientist who obtained this funding, to a large extent for the purpose they were raised for. In contrast to this, where the marketing of scientific result is concerned, this concerns the proceeds generated by way of a sale or licensing of know how or patents that belong to the university.

In contrast to the standard arrangement at German universities, the Humboldt-University has decided to set up the distribution of proceeds from marketing in a science friendly manner, while at the same time offering an incentive to the scientists and/or working groups to market actively. The arrangement applies both to marketing through the Humboldt-Innovation GmbH (the Humboldt Innovation company with limited liability) and the Humboldt-University.

Following the methods of distributing profits at internationally renowned universities, the Humboldt-University shall distribute profits as follows:

über 5.000 Euro 25% 25% 50%
über 50.000 Euro 35% 35% 30%
Bei Gewinnen über 500.000 Euro entscheidet die Universitätsleitung.
