NeuroCure
New perspectives in the treatment of neurological diseases
Project overview
Neurological and psychiatric disorders have become a significant burden on society. A particular challenge is the transfer of basic scientific findings into clinically relevant applications. The Cluster of Excellence "NeuroCure" brings together 23 excellent scientists from renowned Berlin research institutes.
In order to better understand the brain and all its functions, the scientists in the cluster conduct research on projects from all phases of life, from early development to old age - always with a focus on neurological and psychiatric diseases. The close integration of basic science and clinical research is intended to drive forward the successful development of new therapies and diagnostic tools.
Rather than focusing on a specific brain disease, the cluster focuses on overlapping pathophysiological processes that can occur in several neurological and psychiatric diseases.
The cluster promotes collaboration and exchange between scientists with targeted innovative programs and new structures. The aim is to bridge the gap between bench and bedside and to make the research environment in Berlin even more attractive and stronger, as well as to give Berlin a leading international role in the field of translational neuroscience.
NeuroCure is a Cluster of Excellence at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, with the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the Freie Universität Berlin as co-applicants.
Partners are the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC), the Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP), the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens (MPUSP), the German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke and the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE).
