Apply for a Humboldt-Scholarship (within the Germany Scholarship programme of HU)!

The application period for a Humboldt-Scholarship (within the Germany Scholarship programme of HU) has been extended: 2 December 2019, 8 AM until 12 January 2020, 11:59 PM.

During the application period you may change and adjust your application online at any time. Please note that you will have to finally submit your application by 12 January 2020 11.59 AM.

You can submit the tasks for the Themenklassen and Climate Impact Research Scholarships via upload in this form from 2 December until 12 January 2020.




You can apply for a Humboldt-Stipendium of the Humboldt-Universität if

  • you are enrolled as a student at Humboldt-Universität in summer semester 2020 and if you study within your subjects respective standard period of study
  • or if you are applying for a course at Humboldt-Universität.


Humboldt-Stipendien (2019/20)

An application for multiple scholarships - single Humboldt-Scholarships and Themenklassen-Scholarships as well as Humboldt-Scholarships for Climate Impact research of the Humboldt-Universitäts-Gesellschaft - is possible. 


  • Humboldt-Scholarships: Students of ALL COURSES may apply!

Students of educationally alienated homes, as well as Bafög-recipients are encouraged to apply as well as students of the following courses: 

  • Gartenbauwissenschaften: Gartenbauwissenschaft, International Master for Horticultural Science
  • Psychology
  • Law
  • Regional- und Cultural Studies
  • Language studies
  • Economics


Additionally there are special scholarship formats. Students of the following courses may apply:

  • Humboldt-Themenklasse "Sustainability & Global Justice" by Stiftung Humboldt-Universität: Juristische Fakultät, Institut für Europäische Ethnologie, Institut für Philosophie, Geographisches Institut, Thaer-Institut für Agrar- und Gartenbauwissenschaften, Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Fakultät. Guest course: Psychology
  • Humboldt-Themenklasse "Cannabis Research Class" by Aurora Europe: alle Studiengänge. Insbesondere sind Studierende der Lebenswissenschaftlichen Fakultät sind aufgefordert sich zu bewerben.
  • Humboldt-Scholarships for Climate Impact Research of the Humboldt-Universitäts-Gesellschaft: Institut für Agrar- und Gartenbauwissenschaften, Biodiversity Management and Research, Global Change Geography, Geographie der Großstadt, Rechtswissenschaften, Public Policy, Sozialwissenschaften (B.A. und M.A.), Volkswirtschaftslehre.


Necessary application documents


The complete application process will take place ONLINE. Before applying, please make sure that you have read this page carefully.


Necessary documents (Upload directly in the Online Application Platform):

  • Texts including information on your studies as well as a letter of motivation (3000 characters) and details regarding any social and/or political commitment/ volunteer work of yours during the past five years (1000 characters), details regarding any awards and distinctions you may have received that you deem relevant (1000 characters) details regarding notable social, familial or personal circumstances that apply to you (600 characters).
  • CV (in tabular form without photo)
  • current certificate of enrolment/ matriculation
  • current transcript of grade (from the AGNES-Online Study and Examination Portal)
  • current transcript of grade including grade point average calculated by examination office (available at respective examination office). Please submit the  AGNES-transcript of grades as well as the transcript of grades by the examination office - even if you do not have any grades yet and the and the transcripts are "EMPTY".

EXCEPTION: Students of Law or Economcis: Please fill out the consent form so that examination offices may transmit your grade point average directly to the Team Humboldt-Scholarship.*

  • Students of Law or Economics: Consent form for the transmission of the grade point average by the examination offices (online on 2 December 2019)
  • Scans of certificates (e.g. High school diploma, vocational education diploma)
  • if applicable proof for volunteer and honorary work
  • for applications for the "Humboldt-Scholarships for Climate Impact Research of the Humboldt-Universitäts-Gesellschaft“ and/or one of the Humboldt-Themenklassen: additional assignments:
  • Announcement + tasks for "Humboldt-Scholarships for Climate Impact Research of the Humboldt-Universitäts-Gesellschaft"
  • Announcement + tasks for the Humboldt-Themenklasse "Sustainability & Global Justice by Stiftung Humboldt-Universität
  • Announcement + tasks for the Humboldt-Themenklasse "Cannabis Research Class" by Aurora Europe


Please note: A recommendation letter is not required. Other certificates and documents than the ones requested are not needed and won't be processed.


Please note: If you have more then for instance one proof of volunteer or honorary work, please bundle the documents in one PDF file. Per Upload-box on the Online Applioctaion Plattform just one PDF may be uploaded.


* Due to the high number in applications from law and economics students, the respective examination offices are overburdened. We would like to lift some of this burden and hence ask the applicants for a signed consent form for transmission of their grade point average in order to collect all grade point averages of applicants in one go.
