He has done what many dream about doing today: quitting the job and traveling the world. As he was young and unknown, Alexander von Humboldt did exactly that. He set out for Iberoamerica - and returned to Europe after five years as the most famous scientist of his time. He brought with him: plants and animals - in his mind a new, holistic understanding of the world, which is cutting-edge again today.
Alexander Humboldt's 250th birthday, which will take place on September 14 2019, will be celebrated by the Humboldt-Universität with a diverse program for Berliners and their national and international guests. The highlight will be a festival week. Readings, discussions, lectures, and a summer party welcomes you to explore the life, work, and timeliness of the exceptional researcher. A conference will pick up on one of the most up-to-date topics for which Humboldt laid the ground work: global borders and transformation to sustainability in the 21st century.
