Research Group "Neural Computation"

Dr. Laurenz Wiskott

The junior research group "Neural Computation" led by Dr. Laurenz Wiskott was established November 2000 and is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. It is working on issues of neural computation on a network and systems level, going from biological principles to technical applications. The central question currently under investigation is that of unsupervised learning of invariances. How does our visual system achieve shift, size, and other invariances? Could such invariances be learned from visual experience? Can the same principles be employed for technical applications? Another interesting learning principle we are working on is independent component analysis. For more information see the research projects and corresponding publications.
