Alongside the foundation of the first Prussian Veterinary College and the construction of the ‘Trichinae Temple’, the garden grounds also saw the creation of a pharmacy, blacksmith, stables, housing, commercial buildings and a horse clinic.

One of the former stable buildings is now home to an ultra-modern department: the Bernstein Centre for Computational Neuroscience. It has set itself the task of researching the functionality of the human brain, the most complex structure in evolution. Significant progress has been made in understanding our brain’s cellular and molecular bases, but how it enables us to see, hear, remember events and plan actions still remains largely unknown. The Bernstein Centre in Berlin is aiming to answer these and other questions.
