Online Alumni Portal

What is the Alumni Portal?
The Alumni Portal is an online platform for all alumni of Humboldt-Universität. This platform allows you to search for former fellow students, post questions in fora and receive news and event invitations via the newsletter.

 

How to register for the Alumni Portal?
To register for the Alumni Portal please click here. The following document gives you a step-by-step guide on how to register. After you have registered the alumni team will activate your account and you will receive an automatically generated password via e-mail.

Can I log-in via Facebook, LinkedIn or google+?

Yes, you can use your log-in data from the social media sites named above. If you are having difficulties logging in with third party accounts please use the log-in button in the top right corner of the alumni website using your user name and password.

 

I forgot my password.

You can reset your password by clicking "Forgot login?" at the bottom of the login page of the alumni portal.

You can also e-mail us proving your identity through a scan of your enrolment documents (“Immatrikulationsbescheinigung”) or another document stating that you were associated with HU. After verifying the document we will send you a new password via e-mail.

 

Is there a difference between my username in the Alumni Portal and the one for my alumni-e-mail-address?

Yes. Your user name in the Alumni Portal consists of namesurname (e.g. alexanderhumboldt). To create the user name for the Alumni-E-Mail please insert a dot between name and surname (e.g. alexander.humboldt@alumni.hu-berlin.de).

 

I don't have access to the e-mail address I used to create my account in the Alumni Portal anymore. Do I need to re-register in the Portal?
No, you don't need to re-register. Please simply let us know your new e-mail address, which we will enter for you in the Alumni Portal. Please do not forget to identify yourself accordingly as an alumnus/alumna of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, for example by scanning your certificate of enrolment or exmatriculation or your university transcript. We will then send you an automatically generated password to your new private e-mail address.

You will receive the alumni newsletter after signing up for the Alumni Portal. Please register here: Alumni Portal.

Alumni E-Mail Address

How do I get my own alumni e-mail address?
When signing up for the Alumni Portal you are asked whether you would like to get a personal e-mail address. Please select "yes" and finalise your registration.

I already have an account for the Alumni Portal, but initially didn’t want an alumni e-mail address. Is it possible get it later?
You can apply for a personal e-mail-address at any given time after you have signed up for the Alumni Portal. Please send us a short e-mail and we will activate the e-mail-function. Your password for the Alumni Portal and the alumni-e-mail-address are identical.

 

I have log-in data for the Alumni Portal but I can’t log into my alumni e-mail account.

Please note that only your user name for the Alumni Portal includes a dot between first name and surname, e.g. firstname.surname. For the webmail use your name without a dot in the middle. E.g. firstnamesurname.

The webmail password is the same as your Alumni Portal password. You can change it in the Alumni Portal.

 

I can log into Webmail, but I cannot access my e-mails. What happened?
This can happen when you log into Webmail with your e-mail address, not your username. In that case you can see your mailbox but you cannot open any e-mails.

To solve the problem, please log in using your username. This is your first name and your last name without any punctuation (= firstnamelastname, e. g. alexanderhumboldt).

 

Can I automatically forward my alumni e-mails to another account?

Yes, you can integrate your alumni inbox into e-mail programs via IMAP and POP. Please use the following document: Instructions Alumni E-Mail (pdf)

 

What happens to my student e-mail address after I graduate?

After your termination of studies (“Exmatrikulation”) your e-mail account will be deleted. Please do not use your student e-mail address when signing up for the Alumni Portal.

Your student e-mail address and your alumni e-mail address are independent of each other. E-Mails from your old account will not be automatically forwarded to your alumni account.

 

 

Our Services for Alumni

Can I still use the VPN-client as an alumnus/alumna?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to use the student VPN client after the end of your studies. Due to legal restrictions this service is only available for current students, staff and researchers of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

 

Is there a free WiFi alumni can use at the campus of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin?
Due to data privacy reasons this service is only available for current HU students and staff.

 

Do alumni receive a library account?
No. Usually, however, you can create a free UB-account for non-HU members. At the moment, this is not possible due to the pandemic. Further information can be found on the website of the university library.

 

How can I book an alumni campus tour at Humboldt-Universität?
Unfortunately, we cannot offer any tours at the moment. Please find detailed information on tours here: Alumni tours at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

 

How can I participate in Sports and Recreation ("Hochschulsport") classes?

Alumni can sign up for classes at a reduced rate. You need a certificate stating your status as an alumnus/alumna. After registering in the Alumni Portal you can create your own certificate. You can find detailed instructions in our Alumni Certificate Guide (pdf). Please make sure to upload a current profile picture.

How can I get a discount at HumboldtStore?

Alumni receive a 20% discount in the Humboldt-Store. To get it, you need a certificate stating your status as an alumnus/alumna. After registering in the Alumni Portal you can create your own certificate. You can find detailed instructions in our Alumni Certificate Guide (pdf). Please make sure to upload a current profile picture.

Where can I find the career portal of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin?

The HU job portal posts new offers regularly. You can also offer jobs and internships here.

We are also offering our alumni a range of options for further education.

 

I have lost my university diploma. Where can I get a certified copy of it?
Please contact the Student-Service of Compass or the examination office of your former faculty.

 

I need a confirmation of my current student status. Where can I obtain my certificates of enrolment ("Immatrikulationsbescheinigung")?
Please contact the Student-Service of Compass.

 

I have a question about an administrative issue concerning my studies, where can I find help?
Compass, the Student Service Center, compiled an extensive and helpful list guiding you to the places which can help you answer the most frequently asked questions regarding your (former) studies. The list can be found on the Compass website.

 

I am looking for a person who is an alumnus/alumna of Humboldt-Universität.

If you register in the Alumni Portal of HU-Berlin, you can search for people with several parameters (e.g.: name, subject, graduation year), provided they have activated their data, and then contact them.

Please note that the Alumni Office cannot pass on personal information to third parties for data protection reasons.

For research requests up to the year 1945, we recommend a search at Findbuch.Net of the University Archives.
To search the student directories of the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität, please use the edoc publication server of the HU. Instructions on how to use this can be found in the guide for keyword research in the edoc server (guide available in German only).
