Mori Ôgai Memorial

The Mori Ôgai Memorial at Humboldt-Universität offers information about the life and work of the Japanese doctor, author, translator and critic Mori Ôgai (1862-1922), who studied military hygiene and sanitation in Berlin. As well as his ‘German Diary’, his translations of works by Goethe, Schiller, E. T. A. Hoffmann and Kleist remain hugely significant for the Asian region.

The Memorial’s main tasks are to translate, catalogue and disseminate works that have key roles in promoting cultural understanding between Japan and Germany.

As well as a small reference library, it also offers a digital Ôgai catalogue containing all of his translations, articles and dissertations in European languages.
