How to get Information concerning studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin:
Interested in studying at Humboldt-Universität? Here are the sources of information you will find useful:
- The survey of courses offered at Humboldt (Studienangebot) is published on 1 June for Winter semester and 1 December for Summer semester every year. It includes the whole range of courses alongside with information about possible restrictions on admission to courses (NC=numerus clausus). If you click on the course you are interested in you'll find a more detailed course description (Studiengangsbeschreibung) with information about the combinability of courses, specific entrance requirements, the course structure, length and content of courses.
- Besides, you'll find useful links explaining the criteria of admission and the NC-Grenzwerte.
- It is certainly also very useful to check on the links on module descriptions and on Kommentiertes Vorlesungsverzeichnis (Annotated Course catalogue). There you can see which content components are dealt with in a particular course so that you can easily find out whether or not it is the right course for you.
- At the end of the course description you will find a link to the Studienfachberatung, the Course Advisory Service, which you may contact to discuss more specific questions.
- And perhaps you want to attend one of the lectures? Find out what is on offer in the Course catalogue and use the contacts to the lecturers listed there in order to obtain permission to participate.
- Leaflets on frequently asked questions contain information on Bachelor and Master courses, teacher training, restrictions on admission, the beginning of the academic year, part-time studies, etc.
For those who intend to embark on a Master's course:
- Please, have a look at the Studienangebot. Note that there are specific entrance requirements for the various courses. There will be information on the content of courses and on contacts for personal help if need be.
- If, after all, you have not found the course you would like to embark on, you can check with the nation-wide university information service at www.higher-education-compass.de.
Where will you get help if you have further questions?
- For answering questions about the content and the focus of a particular course, etc. there is a specific course-related advisory service (Studienfachberatung).
- If you have questions concerning career prospects after graduation you should contact one of the Job Information Centres of the Agentur für Arbeit (Berufsinformationszentren). The Studienfachberatung service may also be of help.
- If you wish to talk to students currently on the course, there is the studentische Studienfachberatung (peer advisory service). There you could get advice from a student's point of view.
- Questions across the range of courses will be answered by the Counselling Services.
- For information on questions concerning the formalities of applying or enrolling you should refer to the Humboldt online application site. If questions remain open, we refer you to the Compass-Hotline. If you have obtained your university entrance qualification abroad, please follow the instructions of the Admissions Office for International students. If you have any questions, please contact the Initial counselling for international applicants (degree-seeking).
Finally, here are invitations to young people at high school:
- "Woche der Studienorientierung". On this occasion institutes and departments present their course programmes. You may visit a selection of standard lectures and seminars and talk to students. By attending specific lectures and participating in guided tours you may gather information on many specific aspects of university studies.
- You can find a wide range of specific offers by Humboldt faculties on this website.
- There will be a question time event for prospective students every Wednesday at 3 pm in the application period from June to mid-July.
