The university building on Hegelplatz at Dorotheenstraße 24 was reopened in 2006 following extensive restoration work.

The building is home to the Departments of German Literature, German Studies and Linguistics, and Northern European Studies. Its highlight is the Fritz Reuter Hall, named after a musical education professor who joined Humboldt-Universität from Halle/Wittenberg in 1955. Reuter was committed to ensuring that in renovating the building, the war-ravaged university would not only receive a new concert hall (the reconstruction was virtually planned around the historical room) but also approve the construction of a new organ. The organ celebrated its 50th birthday in 2009.

The building is also home to the libraries for Historical-Comparative Linguistics, Scandinavian Studies and German Studies Libraries.
