The university Language Centre, the Department of Romance Literatures and Linguistics, the Department of Slavic Studies and the Hungarian Studies subject area are all based here. The range of courses available covers the classical study canon of society, culture and language in Western European, Eastern European and the Slavic countries.

The Language Centre offers more than 50 years of expertise in foreign language teaching and didactics. Students from all academic disciplines, staff, and alumni have access to high-quality training in technical and foreign languages at a variety of levels – ranging from Arabic and Chinese to courses in German Sign Language.
