Successful HU top athletes at the 2024 Summer Olympics

Martin Zwicker wins silver with the men's national hockey team and Tabea Schendekehl wins bronze in the women's quadruple scull / HU athletes show impressive performances in various disciplines

The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris came to an end on 11 August and the six top athletes and students from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) showed great performances in six disciplines.

Martin Zwicker, who studies sports science at HU, won the silver medal with the men's national hockey team. In the exciting final, the team lost to the Netherlands in a penalty shoot-out with a score of 1:3.

Teacher training student Tabea Schendekehl won the bronze medal in the women's quadruple sculls together with Pia Greiten, Maren Völz and Leonie Menzel.

HU doctoral student Leo Köpp reached the final in the 20km walk and finished the competition in 23rd place, showing a strong performance.

Renée Lucht is studying special education and sport with a teaching qualification at HU. She made it into the top 32 judokas in her weight class (+78 kg) in Paris and achieved an impressive 5th place with the team.

Psychology student Christina Wassen impressed with a strong seventh place in the 10m tower diving qualification. She finished 17th in the semi-final and narrowly missed out on a place in the final.

The modern pentathlete and HU teaching student, Annika Zillekens, impressed with a 15th place. She was just 65 seconds short of the bronze medal.
