Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

250th Birthday of Alexander von Humboldt

Programme of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

The brilliant explorer and shrewd analyst Alexander von Humboldt forged a deep path in the world of science. As a discoverer, he not only combined the scientific disciplines in his legendary Kosmos lectures, but also investigated the interplay between natural phenomena and human activity. He looked at the world as a global way, so introducing a whole view into science.

For the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin the 250th birthday of the younger of the Humboldt brothers is an opportunity to devote a range of different events over the course of the year to his work, his ideas and his life and to ask how Humboldt’s comprehensive gaze can contribute to the advancement of the sciences today, in the 21st Century.

Humboldt’s Kosmos lectures were intended for a wide audience. For his 250th birthday, the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin will be open to everyone who wishes to be swept up on the great “research” voyage of discovery, guided by their thirst for knowledge and critical perspectives.
