The “GeT MA for Refugees Program” is part of the general GeT MA degree program at the Humboldt University zu Berlin (HU)’s Institute for Social Sciences. Refugees who are registered in Berlin may enrol in the program as guest students. Applicants require a Bachelor or an equivalent degree in the field of social sciences or a similar subject – such as political sciences, sociology, international relations, history, administration studies, law, or economics, for example.
The GeT MA is a two-year interdisciplinary Master’s course in social sciences, and is taught in English. The degree course focuses on contemporary social sciences research questions, such as modernization and democratization, and Europeanization and migration. Using Germany, Turkey, and other countries as examples, students consolidate and deepen their empirical understanding of modern political processes in Europe and the surrounding regions. Successful completion of the course means that graduates are prepared to begin international careers in areas such as governmental organization, diplomacy, political consulting, NGOs, administration, economical consulting, journalism, teaching, or research.
“The particular advantage of the GeT MA for Refugees Program is that refugees may enrol in the course as guest students. No knowledge of German is required. As soon as students have the required documents to enter the regular program, their achievements in the refugees program will be recognized, and they will be able to acquire a proper Master’s degree,” says Professor Dr. Silvia von Steinsdorff, scientific director of International Master’s Programs at the Institute of Social Sciences.
